Purpose of Part 145

The Civil Aviation Act (CAA) 1988 prohibits anyone from carrying out maintenance on Australian aircraft and aeronautical products if the person is not permitted by regulations to carry out that maintenance.

In the future, only organisations approved under the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations (CASR) Part 145 will be able to provide maintenance services for regular public transport (RPT) aircraft or their aeronautical products. These organisations are known as Part 145 Approved Maintenance Organisations (AMOs).

The new proposed regulation aims to correlate requirements into a consolidated structure. In many areas, the requirements are stated less prescriptively, enabling organisations to develop their own processes to achieve stated safety outcomes.
