General Performance Rules
Part 42 Subpart D contains the permissions for a person to carry out maintenance of aircraft and aeronautical products. One of those permissions is for a Part 145 AMO to provide maintenance services for an aircraft or aeronautical products.
Part 42 sets out general performance rules covering how to carry out maintenance. For example, it requires maintenance to be carried out:
In facilities appropriate for that maintenance
In accordance with current maintenance data
Using specific tools and equipment, if mentioned in the maintenance data
By individuals who are competent to carry out the maintenance themselves or are supervised by an individual with that competency
