Training

Competency Based
CASR Part 66 utilises the Australian Qualification Training Framework (AQTF), which is a competency-based training regime run in accordance with the Australian Government skills training policy.

All licences are underpinned by competency-based training.  B1.1, B1.3 and B2 licences require four years’; B1.2 and B1.4 require three years’; and A licences require two years’ industry experience.

Practical Training
If the practical training for an aircraft type rating is Practical Consolidation Training, it will be possible for the applicant to be issued an aircraft type rating without gaining further experience.

Aircraft Type Ratings
Maintenance Training Organisations (MTO) who provide aircraft maintenance training that leads to a licence or aircraft type rating issue by CASA will first require a Part 147 approval issued by CASA.

Note: CASA Part 66 licences will be issued to individuals who have completed training and competency assessment by a CASR Part 147-approved MTO.
