Complete form 166A on your PC first and then print the GP Guidance Material and the Recreational Aviation Medical Practitioner's Certificate forms.

Step 5: Book a medical

Book an appointment with your GP for a medical and take all printed material with you. It is recommended that you tell them that you need a Recreational Aviation Medical Practitioner's Certificate.

If you fail the medical go to Step 8.

Step 6: If you pass, email the forms to CASA

Once the medical is complete and signed by you and the GP, email completed forms 166A, 166B and 166C to rec.medical@casa.gov.au.

Note: Any application sent via fax, post or to any email address other than rec.medical@casa.gov.au will be returned to the applicant and will not be acknowledged by CASA.

Step 7: Approval letter

CASA will review your completed forms and check if you have a medical history recorded with CASA. If you do not have any disqualifying conditions you will receive an email containing a RAMPC (Recreational Aviation Medical Practitioners Certificate)  approval letter from rec.medical@casa.gov.au (CASA) and you may now fly. There is no requirement for additional paperwork from CASA and you will not receive a medical certificate in the mail.

Please note that you must carry the Recreational Aviation Medical Practitioner’s Certificate (166C) and the approval letter received from CASA with you when you fly.

If CASA finds any disqualifying conditions you will be advised that you do not meet the criteria for the issue of a Recreational Aviation Medical Practitioner’s Certificate. You will need to apply for a Class 2 medical via a Designated Aviation Medical Examiner (DAME).

Step 8: If you fail the medical, do not fly

Should you fail the medical no further action is required. you will now need to apply for a Class 2 medical via your DAME. End of process.
